The 8th Annual Jesse Jensen Women’s Memorial Softball Tournament was held last weekend September 17-19. 2021 at the Withee Ball Park. This was another successful event which raised money for the Jesse Jensen Scholarship. The tournament was the brainchild of Jesse Jensen who sadly passed away in January of 2014. Since her passing, Jesse’s contagious smile and positive energy lives on through this fun-filled tournament. This year over 70 baskets were donated to be raffled off as well as other large prizes, a paddle drawing was held throughout the tournament as well. The generosity was as overflowing as is the camaraderie throughout the weekend.
A friend of Jesse and tournament organizer Mary Ann Rollins had this to say about the weekend.
“Congratulations to Emily Kolbeck and Team Walls for taking the Championship for the 8th year of the Withee Women’s’ Tournament. Dana Tesch with her Not too Shabby crew battled hard with four games in the scorching weather today to come up just short by taking 2nd place. Hailey Kozey and Aftershock played some great ball and ended up with 3rd place. Big J's Misfits once again took home the beer drinking trophy. Congratulations to all the teams.”
“So many of you had such kind words to say all weekend about how much you love this tournament and how great it is run. But truly this tournament would not be what it is if wasn't for everyone that helps out. Jackie Jo our Withee Softball Association President spends countless hours managing and preparing the concessions so you all can have cold beer and hot food. Julie Christophersen and all her minions spend a great amount of time organizing the baskets. Emily Christophersen and Kari Christophersen set aside their whole weekend to do book and announce. Terry Foss bakes in the sun all weekend so we can have a fair called game. Miss Abbie Lavin spent all day Friday with me to prepare. There are many others that worked concessions and helped out! Without each and every one of you doing your part this tournament would not be the success it is. I am so happy Jesse Dee Jensen asked for my help to bring Women’s Softball back to Withee Ballpark. She would be so happy to see what it has become. It's more than just a weekend of playing softball. It’s a weekend of spending time with so many amazing people. I'm happy to have met such great people through this tournament and wouldn't be able to make this a success without our volunteers, teams and fans! See you all September 16, 17 and 18 of 2022!”
