The Grow ’n Owen Committee along with local volunteers gathered on Saturday, May 29, 2021 to begin setting the stage for the flower gardens throughout Owen. Volunteers began setting up a new sprawling All America Seed/America in Bloom Showcase garden which is in front to the new Owen City Hall.

Since the location was new and part of the front lawn, cardboard was placed on the grass and covered with topsoil from the kind folks at Frenchtown Greenhouse. The process was made much easier with the help of Brian Rau and his tractor. He quickly scooped up the dirt and deposited on the cardboard while volunteers raked and shoveled it into place. Finally, the layer of topsoil was covered with potting soil.

The next step will be to do the planting. The All-America Selections Winners seeds were donated through the America in Bloom organization and grown by local volunteers. The requirement for entry into this garden contest is that the AAS seeds be used, send five photographs of this flower garden which should be located that has high visibility.
