Hamm of Owen charged with child neglect and drug offenses

OWEN, WI – On Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at approximately 4:26 p.m., the Owen-Withee Police Department received a call from a parent, in reference to concerns of abuse and neglect involving their child. The initial complaint revealed that the mother of the child, who was later identified as 38-year-old Shana L. Hamm of Owen was not only using drugs near or around the children but also pressuring one of the children to partake.

On Thursday, March 10, 2022, at approximately 12:13 p.m., the Owen-Withee Police Department, as well as members of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Natural Resources, executed a search warrant of Shana’s residence, located on E. 4th Street in the City of Owen. During the search of the residence, officers located a number of items related to drug paraphernalia, as well as large quantities of marijuana and other prescription drugs. At approximately 2:47 p.m., the Owen-Withee Police Department took Shana into custody and transported her to the Clark County jail, where she was booked on a number of offenses.

On Monday, March 14, 2022, Shana appeared in court and was charged with: Possess w/ Intent/Deliver Non-Narcotics (Felony H), Neglecting a Child (Consequence is Bodily Harm) (Felony H), Maintain Drug Trafficking Place (Felony I), Possess w/ Intent – THC (<=200 grams) (Felony I), and three counts of Possess Drug Paraphernalia (Misd. U). Shana was later released on a $2,500 signature bond. An initial appearance has been set for April 12, 2022, at 9:10 a.m., located at the Clark County courthouse in the City of Neillsville.
