John G. "Jack" Zimmer, age 92, of Greenwood, WI, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021John G. "Jack" Zimmer, age 92, of Greenwood, WI, passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield, WI, with family by his side. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
John Gordon Zimmer was born on June 20, 1929, in Thorp, WI, the son of John E. and Ruth M. (Steele) Zimmer. At the age of 9, his family moved to the Town of Warner, rural Greenwood, where he was raised on a farm and attended Benjamin School. He farmed with his parents on the family farm until age 18, at which time he began hauling canned milk. Jack was united in marriage to Carol Wolske on February 25, 1956, at Grace United Methodist Church in Greenwood. In 1957, he bought his own milk route and became owner/operator of Zimmer Trucking until 1994 when he sold the business to his sons, Joel and Scott. Jack continued working for his sons part-time until fully retiring from hauling milk in 1998.
He had many interests but especially enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren, gardening, and working outdoors. Jack was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and later Immanuel United Church of Christ.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 65 years, Carol, of Greenwood; 7 children: John (Jo-Ann) of Colorado Springs, CO, Joel of Greenwood, Randall of Stratford, Rita (Chuck) Brown of Dodgeville, WI, Shari (Joel) Suda of Greenwood, Scott (Tina) of Greenwood, Rick (Lynda) of Appleton, WI; 10 grandchildren: Grete Zimmer, Ana (Jeffrey) De Lanoy, Jill Zimmer, John (Samantha) Zimmer, Laura (Jordan) Krebs, Kaitlyn (Brettain) Johnson, Cassie (Mitchell) Erickson, Derek Suda (special friend Shana Haas), Blaire Zimmer and Leah Zimmer; 6 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth (Leland) Albert; one brother, Glenn (Janice) Zimmer and one grandson, Austin Henry Brown.
