Enjoy the last week and a half of Summer. Hard to believe that Fall is only 9 days away as of this writing. For the bowhunters, the season should open with some warmer weather as usual. Usually, don't hunt until Oct. but may get out there earlier this year. Looks to be a pretty good deer crop this year.
Never a dull moment being a mayor of a small town. Unfortunately, we have, (as most towns probably do) a person or persons who constantly have to complain about things, hold grudges, and are apparently unhappy with the lives they live or just need attention. A perfect example came from a recent open planning meeting where several community members attended. Most of those attending really had no idea or signed a petition against something they supposedly knew nothing about. This item was no secret and has been in the works for over a year. They would still complain for complaining’s sake, even after hearing all the details of the project and the fact that the powerful WI DNR has the final say. Attracting, "Those People," was a statement made by an attendee. Even though I knew what they meant, I had to ask, "What do you mean by "those people?" I was actually flabbergasted by that comment coming from a small-town well-known community member. Apparently, Abbotsford and Colby have many "problems" because of "those people." Have to admit that I do a lot of my substitute teaching in those two communities and see no more, if even less, issues with "those people." Enough said about that.
Then there is the W. H. club who are always attacking what is done or going to be done in our community or individuals who work or did work in our community. The club seems to meet weekly in a not-so-secret location within our town to strategize their next plan of attack. All I can say is, "Who does that?" Get a life and live in peace and happiness instead of trying to make yourself feel better by trying to make everyone around you feel like you do (miserable).
On a positive note, we hope to have the newly approved plans for the addition onto the school by the end of the month with new bids coming in sometime in Oct. Cal and company have gotten a start on the solar project at the school. Hope to have it installed by end of Oct.
Huge thanks go out to the city crew for all the extra work and hours put in after the storm doing clean-up. A big mess was cleaned up in a short time. If that ever happens again, simply pile your branches and debris on the side of the street, just off the curb as it saves time and less chance for lawn damage from equipment.
Been hearing the complaining and whining about the word alcohol on the school board agenda. All I can say is get the facts before you open your mouth. Another option is to attend the meeting if it upsets you. No excuses. Sorry, I don't deal well with excuses. Coming from a military background I was taught to "get er done," or " make it happen." Where there is a will, there is a way.
Have a great week and support your great community to make it even better.
“The tragedy of life is often not in our failure, but rather in our complacency; not in our doing too much, but rather in our doing too little; not in our living above our ability, but rather in our living below our capacities.” ~
