Where were you born and where did you grow up? Born in Las Vegas, NV and grew up in Portland, OR until 8th grade.  In that year, during October, I moved to Chetek, WI and graduated from Chetek High School.

Where did you graduate from college/university and with what degree?  Graduated from UW-River Falls with two degrees in BS of secondary education: English and art (6-12)

Did you attend grad school? If so, what was your degree and program? Did not attend grad school, but have attained many post degree credits for continuing education.

Do you have any prior teaching experience and, if so, where and what did you teach? I have been teaching for 20 years.  I began with a long-term sub during the 4th quarter of the school year, at Barron High School, as I graduated in January.  My first contract job was with the Flambeau school district, teaching 9-12 English and Computer Applications, and taught in that position for two years.  I was then hired at the Edgar School District as a 9-12 English teacher, then was able to move to the art room, teaching 6-12 art until 2018, for a total of 15 years.  I then taught in the Adams-Friendship Middle School (5-8), and then was hired at Owen-Withee.

What are you teaching this year at Owen-Withee?  I am the middle school/high school art teacher, so I will be teaching 7-12.

Who is/are your greatest influence(s)?  I have many, but I would say one of my biggest influences as a teacher was my ceramics professor, and world-renowned potter, Randy Johnston.  His specific, but laid-back approach to teaching creative minds really helped to shape the environment I create in my art room.

What is your favorite book?  Wow, tough question, so I will say ONE of my favorites is Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger.  It is a mystery built with character development, as well as coming of age or self-awareness story, and ultimately, redemption.

What is your favorite type of food?  My favorite type of food is essentially anything my husband wants to cook.

Do you have a, and what is, a favorite story from your own life or family?  My father, Dave, grew up in the Depression, and I loved hearing stories of his life living in a tar paper, one-room shack with his three sisters and his parents, in Princeton, MN.  One of my favorite stories of his childhood was a night where he had gotten revenge on one of the neighboring town's bullies when he showed up at the area dance.  He waited until the boy went inside, and then wrapped a chain around the back axle of the boy's car. Later that night, as the boy sped out of the parking lot, the back axle was ripped off of his car.
