The Owen Downtown Revitalization Committee met on Thursday, July 1, 2021, 5 p.m. at Red Daisy Girl. Committee members present were Ken Martine, Nicole Rogers, Travis Rogers, Tony Wallace and Carey Hargot also present were CDC Tim Swiggum and Cindy Cardinal.
The Farmer’s Market is up and running with Marge Rohland again taking the lead. It is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Owen Public Librarian Loralee Petersen has been showing up every other week with fun games and crafts for the kids. The Blackhawk Express has been hitting the streets again with various conductors. Pam Smith has been added to the line up to drive the train. The DRC is grateful for all the volunteers. Nicole Rogers offered to create and order a new Owen Farmer’s Market sign.
Frank Varney, who writes the weekly Frank in France column for the Sentinel & Rural News, will be visiting the Owen-Withee Farmers Market on Saturday, July 31. He will be giving a 30-minutes-long presentation followed by questions and answers on life in France. This will be presented every hour, on the hour. He will also be selling French pastries!
The Owen Junior Fair will be held August 6-8. The DRC discussed having the train in the parade. Ken Martine made a motion to spend no more than $50 on candy for the parade, Nicole Rogers seconded and all approved.
The 9th Annual Owen Main Street Car Show will be held August 21, 2021. The car show committee is planning this annual event and is currently seeking sponsors. The committee approved a motion to spend $80 in advertisement to recruit sponsors. The minimum sponsorship is $50. The sponsors names will be on the event t-shirts if received by August 2, 2021. Nicole Rogers passed out two options for the complimentary car show magnets. The committee decided on a design and decided to order 100 magnets once again.
The showcase garden has been planted in front of the new city hall. The committee and volunteers have been busy planting, weeding and mulching Growin’ Owen flower gardens in various locations in Owen. The next workday will be Saturday, July 10 at 8:30 a.m.
