The Owen Public Library committee has commissioned Jim Scheuer, a talented local amateur photographer, to be featured in a 16-month calendar. Jim Scheuer is a retired music teacher, professional musician, and amateur photographer. Besides keeping very active in music after retirement, he has wowed many with his amazing nature photographs. Since the Owen Library building is need of a new roof, the committee decided to showcase Jim’s photographs of the natural beauty of Owen and Withee area in their fundraising efforts.
According to Jim, “Photography is my only non-musical hobby. I have no serious photographic equipment or expertise; I rely on a point-and-shoot camera with a good optical zoom and take most of my photos using the camera’s Sports setting. The secret to taking good photographs is to take hundreds of photos and discard most of them.”
Jim’s amateur photography looks very professional indeed. In fact, a photograph Jim took on an Apostle Islands Tour won the 2013 Bayfield Chamber of Commerce Photo Contest.
The Owen Library calendars will be on sale at the Owen Public Library, Owen City Hall, the Old School during the Owen Jr. Fair and possibly other locations in the future.
