ONE in Christ Lutheran Parish (Our Savior’s Lutheran, Greenwood, Nazareth Lutheran, Withee and Emmanuel Lutheran, Longwood) and St. John’s Lutheran, Withee, hosted an ecumenical Simple Summer Vacation Bible School program for area children. Part of this VBS was an at-home adventure during this Covid-19 pandemic. The program was held during the month of July with VBS packets sent to participating families. Here kids could explore outdoor activities, be involved in a creative snack or craft, along with scripture readings, poems and prayer. The program was designed to be held over a 12-day period, where children, youth and their friends could pick and choose from the many activities offered and to work at their own pace.
Our mission offering was a Generosity Challenge between the four churches to collect non-perishable food items for the local food pantries. Saturday forenoon, August 1, staff, helpers and children gathered at the Longwood Park for a VBS finale. Family groups and social distancing was practiced according to County Health guidelines. Activities included music, skits, a scavenger hunt, garden yoga, I Spy game and concluding with an ice cream social.
Thrivent Financial helped sponsor the event.
